October print New Deadmau5 merchandise

deadmau5

Designed by Hannah Morrison, in a departure from the usual band merchandise, bamboo fabric T-s were printed using soft water based inks to create a retail look for Deadmau5. The garments were then re-labelled and presented in organic canvas bags, also printed with water based inks.  In a music download culture, it looks like artists are not just recognising the increased importance of merchandise, but also wanting to present a high street quality product.

Stickhedz – a new polo clothing brand

Stickhedz launches to target the latest players in the recession-riding sport.

Think Polo think elitist sport? Not anymore. Official figures show that since 2001 the number of registered players in the UK and Ireland has almost doubled.

7

Polo has had to evolve in the face of the economic climate to survive and the businesses connected to the world of polo are finding themselves having to change rapidly. One such business launching this month is Stickhedz.

11

Stickhedz aims to change polo fashion to reflect the actual needs of these new players, grooms, trainers and fans: affordable fashion they will want to wear on and off the pitch.

13

The last twenty years has seen polo expanding at such a rate as never seen since pre WWI amassing some 3250 registered players. Sam Morris-Warburton, long-term polo-addict and director of Stickhedz said, “All walks of life have been flocking to take up the challenge of this modern extreme sport as it has become more and more affordable. I want Stickhedz Polo Apparel to reflect the fresh new approach this influx of people brings to polo fashion and the way polo sees itself.”

Chunk – Clever T shirt design – North London

CHUNK BIOGRAPHY

Like all good ideas, the idea for Chunk came about one Friday night in the pub, back in the heady days of September 2000.

chunk

Quote: “A friend had just bought an old Ford Capri MkI and with it, came a Haynes manual. So proud was she of her new purchase, she took the manual to the pub where we all sat around admiring the cover until someone said “wouldn’t that look great on a T-shirt”. And that, as they say, was that. Chunk launched and was quickly noticed by the leading stores: Harvey Nichols, The Dispensary, Richmond Classics, and the name and the range grew quickly. We gave up our jobs, sold our houses and concentrated on making Chunk a great UK brand.

We moved into the first Chunk Towers (a 200sq ft room in Shoreditch with a glass roof and no heating) which we quickly outgrew, so we moved into the existing Chunk Towers, a 47 storey building with flags flying from the roof and marble lions by the door in that trendy area, Tottenham, North London. From the outset, our ethos was to produce excellent quality garments at a fair price. We wanted Chunk to use iconic images and adapt them to put them in different contexts, make them clever or funny or quirky.

We wanted the clothing to be detailed and well thought through. We wanted Chunk to bring clever design and a bit of fun to fashion.

Six years later and Chunk now produces two seasonal collections a year, two injection ranges and new T-shirt designs every 12 weeks”.

FIVE RED BATSFashion boutique is ready to fly….

Five Red Bats is a new independent online fashion boutique which creates fashionable garments, all hand made, in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Even though the company is called Five Red Bats, there are actually only two bats – Kerry Fewster and Claire Hutchinson – two females who are fighting the high street fashion scene.

The pair met while working as designers in Leeds and formed a friendship that combined a passion for independent fashion and strong views against high street multiples and mass produced clothing. The goal became to create an independent fashion revolution, fighting against throw away fashion, supermarket collections and the ‘everything you want in one shop’ lifestyle which they believe is sucking fashion’s creative energy dry.

Five Red Bats first range of exclusive ready – to – wear collections for women, men and kids is now available online at www.fiveredbats.co.uk.

The bats are constantly designing and developing interesting and unique garments and are always on the look out for independent designers who believe in an independent revolution. For more information on Five Red Bats contact Kerry (07921 771942) or Claire (07867 920540). Alternatively email info@fiveredbats.co.uk or visit www.fiveredbats.co.uk
